Kick Off Meeting - Speaker: Freddy Williams, President & CEO of Boys and Girls Club
The Sports Club of Tampa Bay will hold its kick-off meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the Palma Ceia Country Club, 1601 S. MacDill Ave, in Tampa.
The social begins at 6 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner (cost $29). Lou Maggio will serve as club president for the 2025-26 year.
Freddy Williams, the president and chief executive officer of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay, will be the guest speaker. The Boys and Girls Clubs have been primary beneficiaries of the Sports Club’s charitable efforts, receiving more than $500,000 since the club began in 1961.
Prospective new members are encouraged to attend.
The Sports Club holds monthly meetings at Palma Ceia, including a buffet dinner and a guest speaker.
Plans will be announced for the club’s two major events — the Leonard and George Levy Charity Golf Classic, plus the selection of new inductees into
the Sports Club of Tampa Bay Hall of Fame. Last June, the club inducted seven new Hall of Famers, including Berkeley Prep football coach Dominick Ciao, Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper, Tampa Bay Sports Commission executive director Rob Higgins, former Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, Lightning broadcaster Dave Mishkin, Jesuit High School athletic director Terry Rupp
and ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale.
The Hall of Fame, which began in 1982, now has 127 members.
